Animal Rescue - Where to go, what to do, how to help! | |
|
If animals are your passion, find out how you can help rescue and save them. Hosts Barbara Niven and Phyllis Botti interview people who are on the front lines for animals: rescue organizations, animal advocates, behavior specialists and people like you who are making a difference in their own little corner of the world.
Find out how to rescue and rehab stray dogs, feral cats, horses, wildlife, exotics and farm animals...and even how to start and run your own rescue or sanctuary. Learn how to do emergency medical care, rescue breathing and CPR on your pet, and how to prepare for a disaster. Get tips on holistic care, animal behavior, spaying and neutering and micro-chipping. Hear about current legislation to protect animals so you can help stop animal abuse, and find out where to adopt so you can help stop puppy mills.
Animals can't speak, so we must be their voice! Link up with other animal lovers to find out how you can volunteer and help. Together we are making a difference, one animal at a time...

Big Cat Rescue - with the most diverse population of wild cats in the world! (Tampa, Florida)
Big Cat Rescue, a non profit educational sanctuary, is devoted to rescuing and providing a permanent home for exotic (i.e. wild, not domestic) cats who have been abused, abandoned, bred to be pets, retired from performing acts, or saved from being slaughtered for fur coats. They also educate the public about these animals and the issues facing them in captivity and in the wild.
The sanctuary houses the most diverse population of exotic cats in the world, with 16 of the 35 species of wild cat represented among more than 100 residents. These include many who are threatened, endangered, or now extinct in the wild.
The sanctuary is devoted to its Vision of a world where animals are treated with respect, and to trying to stop the flow of animals needing sanctuary by educating the public about the plight of the animals, and by supporting stronger laws to protect them.

Volunteer Animal Transport - "Fifteen Legs: When all that stands between death and freedom is a ride..."
Bonnie Silva gives us a peek into the world of volunteers who give their time to transport needy animals from one place to another. Sometimes the only thing that stands between death and freedom for these animals is a ride!
Using the internet, people get together to coordinate driving animals sometimes across the entire country, with people volunteering to drive certain portions or "legs". Find out how you can get involved and join this powerful network of animal lovers. It's very much like the underground railroad of Harriet Tubman's time, a grassroots effort by people just like you. It can make all the difference to an animal who otherwise might be killed in a shelter. It's life or death for them!
You can order her book at www.riverbankpress.com or from Amazon. It's also available at Target.
