Dave Valantine
Dave Valantine, president of HOPE Animal-Assisted Crisis Response, is a former high technology systems engineer who, in 2004, decided to become a certified professional dog trainer. Dave became involved in training dogs and their people after he and his wife Diane rescued a Labrador Retriever, named Bailey. They trained Bailey to be a therapy dog and to compete in AKC obedience trials. Dave and Bailey earned two obedience titles, including the AKC’s Companion Dog Excellent title in 2003. Dave and Diane were trained and certified with Bailey to provide emotional support and comfort to people affected by crises and disasters. They have responded to several disasters including a Metrolink train derailment, Hurricane Katrina, and several wildfires, including the October 2007 fires in So. California.
